Signal Enhancement Program, Model 5142

The Signal Enhancement Program complements the editing and filtering features in CSL core software with new, powerful tools for enhancing signals corrupted by noise. Unwanted noise can be generated by a variety of sources: the ambient acoustic environment of the recording, the recording device's pre-amplifiers, line interference, and degradation of a recording, to name a few. The type of noise can also vary during the recording.

This program is designed to remove, to the extent possible, the unwanted noise and interference found in speech and other audio signals while minimizing degradation to the signal of interest. An assortment of noise reduction routines are provided. Among them are spectral subtraction, background periodic noise reduction, pulse cancellation, echo cancellation, and robust digital filters.

With its excellent signal-to-noise characteristics and digital signal processing (DSP) circuitry which speeds up the processing-intensive, signal enhancement algorithms, the CSL hardware is ideally suited to the tasks for which this program was designed. The program includes macro capability (quickly evoked command sequences defined by the user) to apply when noise patterns are repeated in different parts of a recording.

This powerful option to CSL is ideally suited for applications such as forensics, bioacoustics, and related disciplines.

Current CSL, Model 4500 and 4150, software and database options include:
