Auditory Perception Program and Database, Model 4343
The Auditory Perception Program and Database option is a combination of software, a
CD-ROM database of some 2800 digitized files, and an Instructional Toolbox (tutorial),
which are collectively intended to help construct perception experiments and to provide a
convenient teaching and training tool for auditory and speech perception.
The software program includes convenient tools for preparing lists of auditory stimulus
files, presenting these files in a randomized or user-defined fashion, and recording
subjects' responses. The CSL core software and the popular Synthesis option offer powerful
editing features for stimuli preparation. Samples of files using these tools are included
on the CD-ROM database. The program normalizes output levels of signals and pads
inter-stimulus presentation with user-defined periods of silence. Tags (marks placed in
data) can be added at locations within a file to serve as reference points during
experiments.
For the purpose of teaching users how to prepare stimuli using the CSL and how to
incorporate these into teaching psychoacoustic concepts, an Instructional Toolbox
(tutorial) is included with the package.
